2009.03.16 Idy Chan shows hard work for charity, praising Chow Yun-Fat

Sources: RedNet / AppleDaily /
Idy Chan and several friends led the charity mission to Sichuan and spent over 2 months helping the children in many areas affected by the earthquake like Beichuan, Dujiang and Mianyang. Earlier Idy said "We went to many poor places that in need a lot of help, and it's really fate that we were able to raise money to buy books for the children to study, if there's a child gifted in acting, I really can help him to enter the showbiz"

Idy expressed concerns that many of the earthquake victims still haven't yet received the aide with the amount of 250 CNY [~36 USD] per person as promised by the government.

Chow Yun-Fat recently has released a book of photographs for sales and the proceeds will be donated directly to help the victims of the Sichuan earthquake, "If he invites me [to the photo exhibition], I would go, I believe everyone has their own ways to help, doesn't matter if giving money if one can afford, or sharing the work if can do." (Appreciating his work?) "I've always appreciated him, he's good person and nice to everyone. I remember back in the TV days, he'd treat colleagues to meals."

And to elaborate on the earlier report: Muddy roads and rainy conditions didn't stop Idy go to Lueyang to check in with the children and the plans to help them. Idy and friends have planned out to sponsor about 8 children from the age of 8-18 years old with their joint contributions. Idy even had to introduce herself to the children "Do you know who I am?" "Yes, you're Little Dragon Girl auntie", the children answered in unison.

2008.12.14 Idy Chan @ Aaron Kwok "De Show Reel" Live in Taiwan

Sources: Sina / HK-Image /

Aaron Kwok held his "De Show Reel" world tour concert series in Taiwan from Dec 12-14. Idy Chan was one of the many artists and other multi-entertainers came to show their support for the Heavenly King. Read more here.

[It's quite a coincidence that both of my most favorite stars Idy Chan & Aaron Kwok are in Taiwan, and that she went to see his concert. This is just so neat! I'm sure Idy enjoyed the show much more than I did when I was at his shows in HK last year, blamed the jet lag, even I was in same restaurant with him...]

Idy Chan to play "Third Mistress" in the new remake of "Red Lanterns Hanging High"

Sources: UDN - WorldJournal / Sina / CCTV /

Taiwan producer Xie Naibiao 謝迺彪 has obtained the copyright for the adaptation of Su Tong's "Wives and Concubines" or better known as "Raise the Red Lantern" or "Red Lanterns Hanging High" (RLHH). The rumor that Idy Chan is invited to play the Third Mistress. Idy expressed great interest in the role.

"RLHH" was once created into a movie by acclaimed director Zhang Yimou with the leading lady Gong Li. 16 years ago, director Xie created the TV version with the leading pair Idy Chan and Qin Feng. Earlier mainland TV has decided to do the remake and Xie was asked to be consultant. He then flew to Nanjing and signed the adaptation copyright contract for this Su Tong work.

If the Third Mistress is for Idy Chan to play, younger actor and actress must be needed for leading pair. The "First Wife" role is potentially played by Angie Chiu 趙雅芝, and mainland star Jiang Wenli 蔣雯麗 will be taking the "Second Mistress" role. As for the boyish looking Qin Feng, will he promoted to play the "Master"? Qin Feng joked "Idy Chan even changes to play Third Mistress now, why I cannot be The Master?"

Xie had been working with Idy in HK and Taiwan in the past, last year he went to Canada to convince Idy to resurface, and intended to have her in "Pledging of the Wind (lit.) 風中的承諾" TV series, and Idy's role would be Big Triad Sister. However, the plan failed because China Broadcasting Bureau denied the "black theme", so this time they can cooperate again with the remake of "RLHH".

2008.12.10 Idy Chan as dummy director

Sources: UDN - WorldJournal /

Idy Chan refused to talk about the rumors that she has won the lottery twice of about 400 million CNY [~58 million USD] "This is not to discuss". Curiosity of Taiwan lottery is also in the play, with the belief in Buddhism, she responded "The impossible can become possible."

As the world is in the economic turmoil, Idy shared "Perhaps, I'm especially being blessed, I initially gave some of my investment money to my brother & sister for family restaurant, and now they're mainly providing me."

Idy Chan presently owns 6 diners in Shanghai, acting as dummy director, and she's living a simple modest life. "Believe it or not? I didn't use any skin care products in 4 years, until recently, but I actually use salad oil to apply, they're really effective."

This time Idy hopes to make a Buddhist doctrine and spreading the teaching to young people, and in order to look good in the film, she wants to get thinner.

2008.12.09 Idy Chan & Joe Ma in Taiwan promote TVBS-G "Catch Me Now"

Sources: Sina - Video / XinHuaNet / Tungstar / Tom / QQ / HK-Image / Now / Yam / Udn - WorldJournal / 1-Apple / ChinaTimes / Sohu Video / QQ /

Idy Chan along with Joe Ma were in Taipei yesterday [Dec 8th] to promote the showing to "Catch Me Now" on Taiwan's TVBS-G. Living up to her "Little Dragon Girl or SLL" nickname, Idy appeared simple and beautiful still, she acknowledged to Jin Yong's comment on how she's similar to SLL the most, that she's active in helping the elders, mentally disordered children, martial arts excercising, mediation, living in seclusion, and volunteering in many charity organizations throughout US, Canada, and China. She even spent a month in Sichuan for Earthquake victims.

Joe Ma expressed "Seeing her is like a child seeing his teacher, I'm very honored to work with her." Since Idy is being called as "Lin Mui", at first Joe planned to address her as "Lin Je" but he feared it's like calling her "old". Joe said "Later when I hear everyone else calls 'Lin Mui', I'm no longer afraid. " Joe's looking forward to enjoy the local good food while in Taiwan.

Idy also expressed that she wants to do a documentary on Buddhism.

2008.11.06 Idy Chan's been in Sichuan helping Earthquake children

Sources: Sina / XinHuaNet / Headline / 21CN / CNet / SingTao / CCTV / LueYang /
It's now known that Idy Chan has been in Sichuan for a few weeks since October. Yesterday (Nov 5th), she accepted the local media interview "This time we came here strictly for voluntary work, help is needed everywhere, we have here for a more than half a month and have visited many earthquake affected areas like Beichuan, Jiangyou, Mianyang, etc. Constructing schools, transporting commodities, however, we're short on money for other heavy work!" Idy said.

During the time of Sichuan earthquake, Idy was in Canada practicing spiritual mission with her mentor, she didn't know about the catastrophic earthquake until the end of July "I didn't access the internet, no TV, but after returning to Hong Kong and saw these children on the news, it's just very sad!" Idy explained. In August, Idy wanted to follow the charity group come to Sichuan, but had to postpone the plan because of other reasons. Knowing one philanthropic institution is going to Sichuan in October, Idy had no hesitation and packed her bags along with 4 other compassionate figures.

With the work this time, Idy has been helping a child, she said "I don't have any children, but I love kids". She has been thinking of adopting the child, but it'd be better to be here and showing her interest of buying a home in Chengdu "I've realized that the housing in Chengdu is very attractive, the price is cheaper than in Hong Kong, so it's now my plan."

On if she's regret returning to acting [TVB's Catch Me Now] last year "I'm not regret. Each person must find a true destination to return to, I don't feel that I belong to the show biz anymore, it was just a change of environment, no regrets."

Idy gives silent response whenever asked on Chow Yun-Fat, she expressed that she's now happy with her single life "I don't need a companion, I don't need romantic love, I have friends accompanying me, and that's very substantial."

[It's nice to see an update on Idy, she's truly an admirable person with a beautiful heart, though she looked tiring in this photo]

TVB Classic "Return of Condor Heroes (1983)" turns 25

Today marks the 25th year anniversary of TVB Classic "The Return of Condor Heroes (ROCH)" starring Idy Chan & Andy Lau. On this very day October 31, 25 years ago in 1983, ROCH was officially aired on TVB and even though I didn't get to see it until a few year later, after almost 20 years, this TV series remains fresh in my heart. I'm posting some old photos of the beautiful pair Idy Chan & Andy Lau during that time. I'm feeling nostalgic...

Newsbits:
  • TVB will celebrate its 41st Anniversary next month. The Anniversary Awards Ceremony will be on November 15, 2008.
  • "Catch Me Now" is nominated in "Best Drama" category, Damian Lau is nominated in "Best Actor in a Leading Role" for his role as Ko Chit (Jack), Johnson Lee is nominated in "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" for his role as Tam Ben (BT), and Sharon Chan is nominated in "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" for her role as Kong Kiu. [Of course, no nominations for Idy, sad for 5 sec. haha]
  • Idy Chan as a cameo in Ann Hui's "The Way We Are" is now available on DVD @YesAsia.

Out of touch with Idy Chan

Just a few days ago, I received an email from this film producer/director/consultant asking for Idy Chan's representatives. At first, I thought it was one of the million spams that supposed to go into my "Spam" folder everyday. Then I googled the name of this producer, it's so surprising that s/he is credited in many television works in the States and Canada. So I quickly replied back that I'm simply just a fan. The person replied me back within minutes asking if I would happen to know the name of Idy's manager/agent, and once again, I disappointed the filmaker's arguably genuine request. Click Here to see the content of the email as the proof.

Certainly that Idy isn't in high demand in HK showbiz anymore and especially with her brief comeback for TVB's "Catch Me Now" and cameo in Ann Hui's docudrama "The Way We Are", she received heavy and unwarrantable criticism from media, audience, and even her own fans. But what surprised me, that there's still random filmakers out there are still interest in her. Of course, I wouldn't know for sure if the true intention of this filmaker looking for Idy, but I bet anyone would quickly guess that the email is asking for her to offer a role... right?

Anyways, if Damian Lau didn't meet Idy when filming in Vancouver, and if Idy wasn't there at that very moment, we could never get to see her on screen again, the world would be completely out of touch with her. And that's how I feel now since she disappeared after CMN to live her quiet humble life.

Revisiting Catch Me Now

I know there's people who haven't watched nor finished watching "Catch...", but this entry is like a cure for those who are suffering "CMN withdrawal" ...like me. Hope you enjoy this amateur video (contains spoilers!) [also @ YouTube ] that I spent so many hours creating it. Let me know what you think, thanks!

Go HERE for information on the song and English translation of the lyrics, one of my favorite songs by Jacky Cheung.

The good quality video for Special Alternate Ending - The Undead Legend is available for download @this Megaupload link.

A deleted scene discovered @lauchungyan.com. I believe that there's many many more but most of the time TVB doesn't include behind-the-scenes, the making of, special features, etc. in their DVDs, unless they're deluxe, limited, or whatever else editions.

TVB Classic channel has been airing the 68-episode "This Land Is Mine 風雲" since April 28 (to July 28). This is the series in which young Damian was already the leading man paired with Fung Bobo, while young Idy only played a supporting role paired up with young Kent Tong [watch clip] Simon Yam, George Lam are also in this series, watch its theme KTV @youtube.com/watch?v=hFtyKv9Uaes
